Tennessee Lady Vols here we come!

Thursday was Liza's 2 month well baby appointment and her Mother and Daddy were both surprised to learn that's she already 24 inches long. She is taller than 95% of babies her age and the circumference of her head is in the same range. Since I'm all of 5 feet 3 inches I was astonished to know that our daughter might be a tall girl. Chris thinks that might hamper my parenting abilities if she can look down on me when I'm asking her to clean up her room. Neither of us were surprised about her head size because we know she has received good brain power from both sides of the family. I'm sure her Auntie Em wants to start teaching her German and Latin now.

Recently, Liza is able to put herself to sleep without rocking, a pacifier or being in our arms. The warmth and soft fabric on her boppy certainly help. I think she is starting to cuddle with things; the stuffed animal with her is a new Easter rabbit that Jim and Marcia put in her Easter basket. THANK YOU!

We can't resist taking pictures of her when she's sleeping because she's just so very cute. Plus when we have nights like last night these beautiful pictures of such a sweet (and non crying) child get you through! During her well baby appointment we were given the green light to begin feeding her more ounces a day and we can also start working towards eliminating another feeding. Chris and I decided to get started right away and needless to say we didn't do something right because the sweet angel went to sleep at 10:30 pm after a 5 oz bottle (normally only gets 4 oz) and she woke up at 1:15 am and 4:45 am needing more! Prior to the increase she'd go to sleep at 11:30 pm after and sleep through until her Daddy wakes her at 6:00 am. We've definitely got something wrong and let's hope Liza is patient with us while we figure it out.

Easter Sunday 2008

Since Liza was all dressed up for Easter Sunday we couldn't resist having a small photo shoot. The bunny was the perfect prop and all we had to do was pull him off his perch on the wall - how convenient! The dress Liza is wearing is one that both Emmie and I likely wore when we were her age. I think my Mother did the smocking; why didn't I learn to be crafty!

We weren't quite sure what to put in an Easter basket for a two month old. We put in the singing bunny that Nancy gave Liza, some toys and Daddy's favorite chocolate because we know Liza likes to share. Just pretend I'm smiling well - I'm not nearly as tired as I look. Plus it doesn't matter what I look like this is all about the cutest little girl in the world - Liza!!!! After church we had Easter dinner with the White Family. Thanks a bunch!!

Waking, Watching and Playing

We are beginning to be a little hard up for "postable" items so in an effort to bring you the latest and greatest activities of Liza we filmed her doing several things and combined into a single video. You'll see Liza waking from a short nap, intently watching the mobile in her crib, trying to tell Mommy want she wants and playing with Daddy. Since Daddy is in the last portion of the video that means I was the videographer so if motion sickness is a problem you might want to end the video early. The segment in her crib seems to be the extended version so feel free to fast forward through it! I don't know if the video shows it well or not but Liza watches every one of the animals in her mobile and follows it until it goes out of her line of vision - it's pretty amazing!

Unfortunately during this video you hear me using the baby voice; I can only hope when my friends, family or colleagues call that I remember to switch back to the adult language world!

Baby Einstein and Liza

Thanks to Montreat friends, Don, Martha and Mary, Liza is smarter already. The Baby Einstein activity mat arrived this weekend and we've had a lot of fun watching her discover different things on it. The video will be entirely too long for anyone other than her grandparents, but if you watch closely you'll see Liza making baby smiles!

One Month Check Up - All Clear!

We all celebrated on Thursday the 28th after Liza's visit to the doctor for her one month check- up because she is right on track in every category. No more weight checks three times a week, no more specific tracking of inputs and outputs and no longer do we have to play the game - guess how much Liza weighs. Our next scheduled appointment is in late March! Now that things are on the right track that unfortunately means her Grandmother Jones (or GMomJ as we're currently calling her) has scheduled her return home. I don't want her to leave but unless she's planning to live here permanently (and I think Daddy might object to the weather) it's probably time for us to learn how to fend for ourselves. Bair will miss the great meals (I'll try to keep them up) and I'll miss the constant source of support and the security in knowing if we couldn't handle something she was here to help us figure it out. Thank goodness we have good long distance plans so we can receive counsel from any and all relatives and friends over the phone.

This picture is on Liza's nursery floor while she has her daily tummy time! The boppy my friend Maxie sent was such a popular item we got another one so we could have one upstairs and one downstairs - by the way - boppys make great pillows for adults and if you have trouble carrying the baby and boppy you can do what Bair does and put the boppy around your neck like an over-sized airplane pillow.

Our friends are our extended family since we are so far from home and two of our favorite friends came by for a visit. Maile and Katherine came to the hospital to see Liza on the day she was born and we were so glad they came by the house for another visit. Maile and Katherine are both natural baby holders and if they're interested we'll definitely be calling them to babysit. Come back to see us soon!
